Old news, still interesting to look at though.

A GW-based trading card game would be very interesting, indeed! I wouldn't mind seeing something like that at all. Will be kind of like Magic: The Gathering, methinks.

basically you got a deck of 20 cards prior to battle, you and your team mates can swap cards, make the best team u can using only the skills u have, then you go to the computer and ONLY using those skills VS ppl with other deck's.

it was a way to see how well ppl can work together and actually think about builds, not just run the meta.

our guild does this weekly using SoF's Sealed Deck Generator.

after teh end of the match you return the cards, so to my knowledge you can't keep them.

Yeah those are just the sealed deck skill cards.

Don't know if they can do it for GW now, but a cool idea for GW2 PVP would be to have characters created just for sealed deck play.

For example: You create a character named Sealed Lawls, select PVP: Sealed Deck as his area he plays in, much like PvE or PvP is selected now. You get in a noob area that teaches you how to play sealed deck etc etc...

Then, when you join a game (there can be all different game types or whatever), you get 20 randomized skills (with some sort of constant random positions (3 random attacks, 3 random heals, etc) for types of skills so you can't get all spirits if your a ranger and no bow attacks). You have 5-10-whatever minutes to "build" your "deck", aka 8 skills, and then everyone joins the game and play to win. When the match/matches/whatever ends, your character returns to the town with no skills, but every sealed deck opened "unlocks" the skills (if they haven't been already) to be viewed for information purposes to make choosing builds quicker/more productive in the future.

Would be a lot slower paced than regular PvP but would be a hell of a lot of fun for those who want that element and a little bit more of a challenge. You can implement it externally right now sure, but it would be sweet to have it integrated into the system. Of course, various modes of play for it would be great, and I believe I would become insanely addicted to that possibility.

Therefore, GW could be closer to its Magic: TG element for PvP, with constructed play from Magic being the normal style of PvP we all know now. Maybe some other PvP innovations would be implemented as well.

Sealed Deck PvP play (integrated) ftw!
